When someone decides to do a project, he needs to first prepare the tools and the materials that he will need. Without these, he can never do a project. In the case of electric car conversion, you would need to have aside from the tools the parts that you would use to convert the car into one that is powered by electricity. That is what Electric Car Kits are for. These kits provide car owners the necessary materials to perform a complete conversion of their automobiles. These electric car kits also make electric car conversion easy to perform by beginners and/or non-professionals.

Types of Electric Car Kits

Basically, there are two types of electric car kits to choose from. You can use the DC motor or the AC motor.

First in line is the DC motor kit. Most people would prefer to use DC because the kit is easy to install. Financially, it is also ideal because it does not come with a very high price. It also has a feature that is called “overdriving.” Similar to computer processors, the DC motor can be made to output power that is up to 5 times higher than its actual rating. This can produce bursts of acceleration. However, unlike computers, the DC motor cannot be overdriven for a long time. The DC motors have an inherent heating problem that can worsen if the overdriving feature is abused, which could result to the destruction.

For this reason, a part of the electric car owners are employing AC electric car kits. They don’t have the heating problem that is associated with the DC electric car kits. Plus, they can consume battery power a lot more efficiently as well as maximizing battery life. Though they can’t be overdriven, AC motors otherwise have a regenerative braking feature. Upon braking, the car generates small amounts of electrical power by converting kinetic energy into electricity. With this feature, you can run your electric-powered car a longer time than you could with DC motors. The only drawback to AC motor kits is that they are quite expensive, and could take a lot more time to install.

The Custom Car Kit

A custom model-specific car kit can also be found amongst electric car kits. They can come in AC or DC. The difference is that these kits are made specifically to tailor to the specifications of an individual car model. These custom car kits can be found online, with lots of car models to choose from.
